Mendiburu Magic Foundation… Making a difference.

[paragraph extra=””]Mendiburu Magic Foundation (MMF) was founded in 2000, as a 501c3 non-profit organization, in honor of Nancy Ann Mendiburu. MMF responds to the unmet needs of local children and their families that may be facing cancer and/or other catastrophic or life threatening illness.

In the year 2009 MMF was slightly restructured so as to more effectively accomplish these worthy tasks and continue turning ideas into action! The foundation was established to turn ideas into action with people who are driven with relentless purpose and drive, all while supporting cancer care and providing assistance for children suffering from any catastrophic or life-threatening illness.

The organization’s leadership team is comprised of an Executive Board, Governing Board of Directors, and a Community Advisory Council chaired by Larry Reider and Steve Sanders.[/paragraph]

Pediatric Patient Assistance Funds

Mendiburu Magic Funds are disbursed at area medical organizations and/or hospitals for children, ages 0-17 within the County of Kern. The foundation uses referral based and private requests to assist those affected by life-threatening or catastrophic illness. Since 2005, the foundation has forged relationships with area hospitals to provide existing Mendiburu Magic Funds.

Cancer Care & Support

The organization affirms the importance of scientific research and investigations of new approaches to cancer and any sort of life threatening illness detection, treatment, and prevention. Therefore, we strive to make annual contributions towards accredited cancer research and/or health issues related to our mission.

Mendiburu Magic Foundation responds to the unmet needs of Kern County, please contact a staff representative for anything that may not be related to Cancer Care or Patient Assistance, our primary focus areas. The Board of Directors will consider unique requests.

Some of our success stories

Ryan
"Our daughter, Ryan, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2008, at the age of 4. She received required treatments at UCLA Medical Center and after she finished her treatment, the family still had to frequent the Los Angeles area for chemo appointments and follow ups. Through a referral from the assigned medical social worker at UCLA, we were turned on to Mendiburu Magic Funds, which were provided in the form of gas cards, lodging assistance and groceries. These were a huge help to defer some of the travel costs of driving back and forth for treatments. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it gets brighter as each day passes, thank you to this foundation" — Kim, Ryan’s Mother
Pedro
Pedro's mother, Alejandra, was worried when her 8-month old son had to be taken to Los Angeles for serious medical care. She says that she was so fortunate to have the assistance of the Mendiburu Magic Foundation to help subsidize some of her costs. She was able to spend more time at the hospital and be there with Pedro during very difficult times.
Faith
In a time of uncertainty, Faith’s father, Guillermo says he was very grateful to have Mendiburu Magic Foundation assist the family. He had just lost his job before his 8-year daughter became seriously ill and was afraid he wouldn’t be able to make ends meet. With a portion of the medical bills handled through the pediatric patient assistance funds, the family says they were able to make it through this tough financial and emotional time.
